Roof repair and replacement in Corpus Christi
We are based in San Antonio and accept Corpus Christi projects when our schedule allows. Call (210) 485-1553 to check availability and book a free roof inspection.
Ideal Precision Roofing & Exteriors is a San Antonio roofing company, veteran owned and in business since 2000. Our office is about 137 miles from downtown Corpus Christi, so we want to be clear from the start: we are not a local crew. We do accept coastal roofing projects, and when you call we will tell you up front whether our schedule has room for your job and when we could be there.
If the timing works, you get the same process we use at home: a free inspection, a written estimate, and a roof built for the conditions it will face. On the Coastal Bend, that means hurricane wind, salt air, and a state windstorm inspection on most roof replacements.

What Corpus Christi roofs deal with
Hurricane wind. The storm record here is long. The 1919 hurricane destroyed much of North Beach and the central business district. Hurricane Celia came ashore near Aransas Pass on August 3, 1970, as a Category 4; the local National Weather Service office recorded a 161 mph gust, and about 70 percent of the city’s homes had some damage. Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport as a Category 4 on the night of August 25, 2017, and the Weather Service reported that most homes across the metro area had roofing problems, mainly lost shingles. Hurricane Hanna made landfall on Padre Island in July 2020.
Wind-rated shingles, installed right. Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) guidance for coastal roofs calls for asphalt shingles tested to ASTM D3161 Class F or ASTM D7158 Class H, installed strictly to the manufacturer’s instructions, with damaged decking replaced before the new roof goes on. A rating on the wrapper only pays off if the nailing, starter courses, and edges are done correctly.
Salt air. Salt spray corrodes metal. TDI calls for galvanized or stainless steel roofing nails, and FEMA’s coastal construction guidance recommends stainless steel roofing nails within 3,000 feet of saltwater, plus stainless clips and fasteners for metal roofs near the shore. Near the bayfront, Oso Bay, the Laguna Madre, or the Gulf, flashing, drip edge, vents, and gutters deserve extra attention. If you are pricing a metal roof, read the panel warranty’s terms for coastal exposure before you choose.
Old and new houses. Census figures for ZIP 78404, in the older central part of the city, show most homes built before 1950, while Southside ZIP 78414 is mostly 1990s and 2000s construction. Older decks often need repair before a new roof can go on, so we check the decking during the inspection.
Permits and windstorm certification in Corpus Christi
All of Nueces County is in TDI’s designated catastrophe area, one of 14 coastal counties along with part of Harris County. To be eligible for wind and hail coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (TWIA), new work, including re-roofs and roof repairs, must be built to the code TDI has adopted and be inspected. For work on or after April 1, 2026, that code is based on the 2024 International Residential and Building Codes. TWIA also requires that you were turned down by at least one private insurer.
In practice, most roof replacements need an inspection by a TDI-appointed engineer or TDI inspector while the roof is being installed, which leads to a Certificate of Compliance (Form WPI-8). Repairs under 100 square feet that do not involve decking are exempt. TDI explains the windstorm inspection steps.
The city’s Development Services department requires a permit to replace more than 100 square feet of shingles, change the roof material or slope, or replace decking. The application includes a scope of work and a TDI Form WPI-1 from the windstorm engineer or inspector. See the city’s residential remodel and repair permit page. If your neighborhood has an HOA, check its architectural rules as well.
Hurricane, wind, and hail damage in Corpus Christi
After a storm, start with safety and take photos from the ground. If you would like us to look at the roof, we inspect it and document damage with photos and a written estimate you can share with your insurance company. If your wind coverage is through TWIA, contact TWIA or your agent directly about a claim. Keep in mind that the windstorm inspection rules apply to storm repairs too, so permanent work should be planned with the inspection in mind.

Frequently asked questions about roofing in Corpus Christi
Do I need a windstorm certificate for a new roof?
If you want the home to stay eligible for TWIA coverage, usually yes. TWIA lists replacing a roof or repairing a significant portion of one as work that needs a Certificate of Compliance, and says a structure without one may be ineligible.
Does a small roof repair need a permit or inspection?
The city requires a permit once you replace more than 100 square feet of shingles, replace decking, or change the roof material or slope. TDI exempts repairs under 100 square feet that do not involve decking from the windstorm inspection.
What wind rating should my shingles have?
TDI’s coastal guidance points to shingles tested to ASTM D3161 Class F or ASTM D7158 Class H, fastened with galvanized or stainless steel nails and installed to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Are you a local Corpus Christi roofer?
No. We are based in San Antonio, about 137 miles away. We accept coastal projects when our schedule allows and confirm availability before booking your free inspection.
Can you help with an emergency leak?
Call us first. Because of the drive, a same-day visit may not be possible, and we will tell you honestly whether and when we can get there. Learn more about emergency roof repair.
