Roofing documentation for your insurance claim

We can assess roof conditions and explain a proposed repair scope. Your insurer determines coverage under your policy.

Roof damage documentation in San Antonio

Ideal Precision Roofing & Exteriors provides roofing inspections, repair estimates, and restoration work for San Antonio properties. When insurance is involved, the roofing scope and the coverage decision are different parts of the process.

Our role is to identify observed roof conditions and explain the work proposed for the property. The policyholder handles the insurance claim with the insurer or an appropriately licensed representative.

Understand the contractor’s role

Texas Department of Insurance guidance prohibits a contractor from acting as a public adjuster on a property where it provides or may provide contracting services. We do not negotiate insurance settlements, file claims for policyholders, or decide coverage. Texas also prohibits contractors from waiving, rebating, or absorbing the policyholder’s deductible.

A contractor can explain construction findings and the repair estimate. Questions about policy interpretation, benefits, or disputes belong with the insurer or an appropriately licensed professional.

Information to gather before the roof assessment

  • The property address and approximate date the problem was noticed.
  • Photos taken safely and notes about leaks or visible exterior damage.
  • Previous roof invoices, maintenance history, and warranty documents.
  • Any insurer inspection instructions or requested construction documentation.
  • Records and receipts for temporary protective work.

Contact your insurer promptly about reporting requirements and deadlines. Do not delay required notice while waiting for a contractor visit.

What a roofing estimate should explain

The estimate should identify the observed damage, proposed work areas, materials, and relevant assumptions. Ask which conditions are visible and which require further access or removal to assess. If additional damage is discovered during work, the changed construction scope should be documented.

Photographs and measurements support an explanation of the roof’s condition; they do not guarantee that an insurer will pay for the proposed work. Confirm the documentation included with your inspection and estimate.

Choosing the restoration work

A repair may be appropriate for a localized problem. A replacement may be considered where deterioration or damage is more extensive. Decide the construction scope based on the roof’s needs and a written agreement, with a clear understanding of payment responsibility.

If water is entering now, discuss temporary roof protection and your insurer’s instructions. Safety and reasonable protection of the property should be considered separately from the timing of the final repair.

Will insurance cover a new roof?

That depends on your policy and the insurer’s assessment. A roofing contractor’s estimate is not a coverage approval. Ask the insurer to explain the decision, deductible, depreciation where applicable, and any required documents directly.

After work is completed

Keep the signed scope, change approvals, invoices, photographs provided, and warranty documents. Send construction records requested by your insurer through the appropriate claim channel. Report later workmanship concerns with the original project details through our warranty claim center.
