Roof repair and replacement in Austin and Round Rock
Free roof inspections and written, itemized estimates from our Round Rock office. Call (512) 655-2906 or request your estimate below.

A Central Texas roofing team based in Round Rock
Ideal Precision Roofing & Exteriors serves Austin and Williamson County from an office at 1000 Heritage Center Circle in Round Rock (78664), with a local line at (512) 655-2906. The company has been in business since 2000, is headquartered in San Antonio, down I-35, and is listed by GAF as a Master Elite contractor and President’s Club recipient.
We repair leaks, replace worn and storm-damaged roofs, install metal and flat roofing, and handle gutters, siding and windows. We also work on commercial, multi-family and HOA buildings. Every project starts with a free inspection and a written estimate covering materials, scope, cleanup and warranty terms.

Permits in Austin, Round Rock and nearby cities
In the City of Austin, replacing asphalt shingles with asphalt shingles, or any roof covering that doesn’t affect the roof structure, is exempt from a building permit. The exception is a property in a Wildland-Urban Interface area where 50% or more of the roof is replaced, which needs a permit (City of Austin). Structural changes and historic properties need separate review.
Round Rock does not require a permit for a residential re-roof, but roof modifications need a residential remodel permit, and the city requires drip edge (City of Round Rock). Cedar Park, Georgetown, Pflugerville and Leander each set their own rules. We confirm the requirements for your address before materials are ordered.
What Central Texas roofs are up against
Spring hail
Central Texas sits in one of the most hail-prone states in the country: Texas led the nation with 902 major hail events in 2025, according to NOAA data compiled by the Insurance Information Institute. The National Weather Service office that covers Austin and San Antonio documented hail up to 4.5 inches and about $1.36 billion in damage from a single storm on April 12, 2016 (NWS Austin/San Antonio). After a storm, we inspect for bruised shingles, granule loss and damaged vents and flashing, and photograph what supports our recommendation.
Summer heat and trees
Long, hot summers are hard on shingles and attics. On every replacement we check that intake and exhaust ventilation are balanced, because an overheated attic shortens shingle life. Live oaks and cedar elms overhang a lot of Austin-area roofs, so we also check for limb damage, debris packed in valleys, and clogged gutters.
Compare the whole roof, not just the shingle color
A good estimate explains how existing layers will be removed, how damaged decking will be handled, and how roof-to-wall flashing, valleys and ventilation will be detailed. If you’re weighing metal against shingles, we’ll walk through attachment, transitions and the roof structure underneath.
After a storm hits your home
- Stay off the roof and photograph visible damage from the ground.
- Call your insurance company to ask about reporting requirements and deadlines.
- Call our Central Texas line at (512) 655-2906 for a free inspection, and ask about temporary protection if water is coming in.
- Keep photos, estimates and receipts together for your claim.
We document what we find with photos and a written estimate you can share with your insurer. Your insurance company decides coverage. Texas law (Business & Commerce Code §27.02) prohibits a contractor paid from insurance proceeds from waiving, absorbing or rebating your deductible, and contracts of $1,000 or more must state that you are responsible for it (TDI). We won’t offer to cover it.

Austin roofing questions
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Austin? Usually not for a like-for-like shingle replacement that doesn’t touch the structure. You do need one if the home is in a Wildland-Urban Interface area and half or more of the roof is replaced.
Does Round Rock require a re-roof permit? Not for a residential re-roof, but roof modifications need a remodel permit, and drip edge is required.
Will you handle my insurance claim? We inspect, photograph the damage and write the estimate you can submit. Your insurer decides coverage, and you pay your deductible under Texas law.
How fast can someone look at my roof? Call (512) 655-2906. We’ll give you the next open inspection time when you call.
